Applications in Electromagnetics
Professor Alistair Duffy
This talk provides an overview of a number of topics. The first two are personal research topics, representing a long-standing research interest and a much newer topic of investigation. The second two are related to the wider engineering community, and particularly related to the IEEE Electromagnetic Compatibility Society.
1) Validation of Computational Electromagnetics. In particular this will cover an introduction to the Feature Selective Validation (FSV) method that has been widely used to help validate simulation techniques and implementations for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) applications. With research starting in the 1990s, this has now become a technique of choice for validation and related data comparison applications for many engineers.
2) Electromagnetic Time Reversal for location of Partial Discharge on electrical power transmission lines. The use of electromagnetic time reversal holds promise as a technique that might practically enable location of partial discharge events using only single-ended measurements.
3) EMC and the Climate Emergency. Through many conversations with colleagues during his tenure as President of the IEEE EMC Society, it has become clear that EMC and related engineering makes important contributions to the foundation technologies that support the global response to climate change … but most engineers do not realise that there is such a link. This topic will explore some of those links.
4) The IEEE and the IEEE EMC Society. This will help provide some final context to the previous topics.
Alistair Duffy教授简介:
Alistair P. Duffy (M'93–SM'04–F'15) was born in Ripon, U.K., in 1966. He received the B.Eng. (Hons.) and the M. Eng. degree in electrical and electronic engineering from University College, Cardiff, U.K., in 1988 and 1989, respectively. He received the Ph.D. degree from Nottingham University, Nottingham, U.K., in 1993 for his work on experimental validation of numerical modeling and the MBA from the Open University, U. K., in 2003. He was awarded a DSc for his work on validation of computational electromagnetics. He is currently Director of the Institute of Engineering Sciences, and Professor in electromagnetics at De Montfort University, Leicester, U.K, and a Guest Professor at Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin, China. He is the author of over 200 articles published in journals and presented at international symposia. His research interests include CEM validation, communications cabling, and technology management. Dr. Duffy is a Fellow of the IEEE and of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). He is President of the IEEE EMC Society.
